After Mal had devoured her Taco Salad (with extra salsa) we kicked backed and put on the T.V. Simon had to catch up on his Simpsons and then it all began....
It was around 10 pm when Mal said she wanted to get into the shower because she was feeling "light" contractions and her back was hurting her. She went into the shower and Simon sprayed warm water on Mals back hoping that the water would alleviate some pain. No such luck. So Mal called the nurse and the nurse hooked Mal up to the monitor to measure the contractions. Simon was getting upset with Mal because he thought she was just stressed from being in the bed for so long and that she had just eaten El Vaquero... he just kept saying "BREATH!!! BREATH!!! BREATH!!"... "it's all in your head"....."just relax, you need to relax"... then Simon watched the monitor go from a 12 to a 60 and started to believe that Mal was contracting.
Now it was 11:30 pm and Mal was getting worse. The nurse came in and gave Mal an IV solution hoping to stop the frequency of the contractions. NOTHING.... The babies were coming and there was nothing that was going to stop them.
Then the big one hit and it was go time. The doctors rushed in and checked Mals cervix and determined she was 3 cm dialated. The doctor said "she is going to deliver within 30 min!"... Now where is Simon the whole time? He was in the corner of the room in complete denial, which then turned into complete panic. Mal was rushed down the hallway into the O.R. where about 30 doctors and nurses were expecting us. Simon was given scrubs that were 2 sizes too small and had to wait out in the hallway until they called him in. Finally Simon got to go into the room and sit next to Mal. The Doctor asked Simon if he wanted to see the head crown and Simon took one look and sat right back down.. (it was just like the movie Knocked Up). It was not a second later at 12:14 am, Mal pushed 3 times and out popped a BOY!!! "a BOY?" we both yelled together (since we were convinced that we were having two girls) and Simon got to see little Brynn Joseph (weighed 1 pound 7 ounces and was 11.75 inches long) rushed over to the NICU bed and get set up for his transfer over to the NICU. Little Brynn opened his eyes and looked right at Simon... "it was the most incredible thing I have ever see in my life". Then it was the other twins turn. The Doctors had game-planned to keep the other baby in utero if Brynn was born early. They took one look and the other twin was making her way out. The doc said that Mal need a C-section and asked Simon to leave the room. So Simon left the room and went down the hallway to meet up with Garth, Darlene, and Liv who had all driven down for the event. About an hour later one of the doctors came out and told Simon that the baby was fine and was being transferred down to the NICU to be with her brother, and that Mal was just getting fixed up and she was going to be in the recovery room soon. At 1:09 am Mia Elise (weighed 2 pounds 6 ounces and was 14 inches long) was born.
Mal was all taken to the recovery room where we all got to see her and congratulate her. After that Simon was told he could go down to the NICU and see the kids. He came back with awesome pictures and tears in his eyes. The night finally wound down when we took Mal back to the room where this journey began... room 678! and went to bed at 5:00 am.
Since then we have moved out of the hospital and into Hamish and Marion's house and the babes are right next to each other in the NICU. Please continue to pray for the health of our little babies Brynn and Mia. We have a long road ahead of us and we just want to thank everyone for their support!!
Also we would love to share our love with the doctors and nurses that took care of us during this experience. You guys did a phenomenal job!!!
We will be updating as often as we can with pictures and stories and please continue those prayers!!
Love THE FRASERS!!!
(Simon, Mal, Brynn, Mia, and Monty)
