Brynn's Hernia Surgery

I just wanted to let everyone know that Brynn's surgery went great on Friday! The procedure took about 1.5 hours. We thought we would have to spend the night in the hospital like we did after his first hernia surgery but they let us go home that day! The surgeon said as long as he didn't do anything funky in the recovery room we could go home. So about 3 hours after his surgery we were home and Brynn was sleeping in his bed! He is such a strong little guy! You would never know he just had surgery. He even attended his friend Leighton's Birthday party yesterday! Such a little fighter :)

July 2010: 16 months old

July started off great for us. On July 1st Simon and I celebrated our 4 year wedding anniversary. We looked back at how far our relationship has come. On our 1st anniversary we celebrated at our house, eating our cake top and drinking Dom Perignon. On our 2nd anniversary we celebrated with Simon's family in Germany. Our 3rd anniversary was spent in the hospital and then we saw "The Hangover" at Movie Tavern... and this year we spent our 4 year anniversary with our amazing twins!! It was the best anniversary yet. After spending the day with Brynn and Mia, Simon and I went to the Short North and went to a few different restaurants to have different appetizers and a glass of wine. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day! The twins then got to experience their 1st 4th of July! We took them to the Upper Arlington parade and they were the talk of the town! I think more people were paying attention to them instead of the parade! They had a blast watching the floats and meeting new people. After the parade, we went back to the Fraser's house and had a big cookout. Sadly the kids would not stay up late enough to see the fireworks, so maybe next year.

Another exciting thing that happened this month was we finally chose Brynn and Mia's Godparents. This was something that Simon and I have thought about for a very long time, and there were only two couples that came to mind when we talked about Godparents. Nick and Jamie Speegle are Brynn's godparents and Andrew and Jessica Hoffman are Mia's godparents. These are great friends of ours that we love and consider family. We are so excited and honored they are actually part of our family now and we look forward to all the memories that will be formed between them and the twins!

Simon is finally going to be done with his Organic Chemistry course on Friday August 6th, so we are looking forward to all the family time we will finally have! The twins have kept busy this month. We continue to go to the zoo.. mostly to ride the carousel, boat ride and train, and of course Mia always needs to get a soft pretzel! We also spend a lot of time at the pool and just recently bought a pass to Cosi and we even went to story time at the Dublin Library. We have started getting together with friends of mine that I used to work with at Riviera Country Club. Nicole has a son named Carson and Brooke has a son named Andre and they both turn 1 in the beginning of August. We have been having a play date once a week and the kids LOVE it!

This past week the Fraser Family stepped out of their comfort zone and were a little adventurist! We have friends, Greg and Lora Rossman and they have 2 boys Cole and Lincoln who is a week younger then the twins, and they have a camper on Catawba Island. We decided on Saturday July 31st to pack the kids up and head up to Catawba. We had a blast! Who knew a camper could hold 3 pack-n-plays and 4 adults! By the time we got there, the kids ate and then went to bed. It was nice for Simon and I to have some adult time with friends. We were worried because this was the 1st time the twins were away from home a night but they did great! They slept the whole night, woke up in the morning and played outside for awhile and then it was time for us to go back home. It was so much fun and such a great feeling knowing we are able to travel with the kids and they able to easily adjust to different environments! Thank you Rossmans for a great weekend! We will be back soon!

Miss Mia has been keeping us very busy! She is a very stable and fast walker. Mia enjoys climbing on things now. She has a car that she climbs on, over, and stands on. She loves to play "I'm gonna get you"! She will run up to us then turn and run the other way. She also loves to peak around corners to see who is there and then chase the person. She has started drinking out of a straw and is also drinking out of a normal cup. Most of the time there is more water on her shirt then in her mouth, but she loves feeling like a big girl. She has also started saying "Ahh.." after she takes a drink if she was really thirsty! Mia tries to "woof" like a dog and "snort" like a pig. She has found her ears and attempts to say "please" and "thank you". She loves music and will dance whenever she hears music. She even will stomp her left foot! Mia also now enjoys singing. When music is on she will start to hum and sing. It is so precious! My favorite thing I have noticed about Mia this month is she is definitely going to be a girly girl! She loves putting "pretties" in her hair. Even though she will not leave a bow in, she walks around with my headbands on, bracelets on her wrist and a bag in her hand. I can't wait until we go for our 1st Mani and Pedi together!

Mr. Brynn has also changed a lot in the past month. He now balances on his knees and will reach for toys. When he is on his hands and knees he picks up his hands in an effort to crawl. Brynn has also started holding a toy in each hand. This is a big deal for us because it is another milestone that he has reached. Brynn is now talking. I have heard him say "Ma" three times. He constantly says "Gogen Gogen","La la la" and "Ahhh". He will stand and balance holding onto something and with a little help walked a pushed a baby lawn mower. He has a bunch of teeth coming in on the top and 2 teeth on the bottom and 1 mohler on the bottom. He also is reaching for people. If he is sick of sitting or playing with a toy, he will wine and reach for someone. It is the sweetest thing! He also is mimicking people. If you tilt your head, he will tilt his. If you click your tongue he will click his! Brynn goes in for his right hernia repair this Friday August 6th. Hopefully all goes well and he will just be there over night and home Saturday morning. We have also decided to get an second opinion for Brynn's hips. After going to a doctors appointment and seeing our physical therapist, they all agreed they are not the hip specialist but they feel Brynn is ready for the surgery. I completely agree with them. You can tell Brynn wants to be mobile and play with Mia and the other kids and with his hips dislocated he just doesn't have the range of motion in his hips to walk or crawl on his own. He is also still unable to sit up on his own. With that being said we are seeing an Orthopedic Surgeon that specializes in hip and pelvic reconstruction at Children's Hospital in August and the Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at Rainbow Babies in Cleveland in September. Hopefully they will agree with us and Brynn will have his hips fixed this fall or winter!

Other then that Simon, myself and the kids are doing great. We are just looking forward to some much needed family time starting next week!
