87 Days Later and We Finally Got Mia Home.. Brynn Is Not Far Behind!!

This day seemed so far off when the kids were born, but it came faster than we could think and we are so excited to get Mia home!!! Everyone in the NICU was so excited for us but sad at the same time because they all grew attached to the kids and we grew attached to the nurses. Now that Mia is home life has changed. Mia is taking in all of her surroundings and getting to know her new best friend.... MONTY!! (I think Monty is more scared of Mia than Mia is of Monty). Mal is learning fast that having Mia home means absolutely, positively, NO SLEEP!!! Mal even spent the night on the floor in the nursery. Day after day we are figuring things out and we are just so excited that we are one step closer to having everyone at home.

Brynn is doing great. Last Tuesday he was transferred over to Childrens Hospital to have a laser eye procedure... he was back on track by Thursday. After talking to the doctors we decided to keep Brynn at Childrens Hospital until he comes home so he has access to physical therapy and the orthopedic doctors. We knew we made the right decision when we walked in on Friday and saw Brynn in his new casts to help his club feet. Brynn just needs to continue to grow and start eating and he will be home before we know it.

Mal and I are so thankful for all the love and support people have been giving us. We understand that people are exited that Mia is home, but we are asking that people be patient before meeting Mia in person. The doctors told us that even though Mia is home she still needs to have some sort of "protection" they warn us that if she gets sick she may have to go back into the hospital. With that said Mal and I are waiting until the doctors give us permission to invite people over to see Mia. Trust us we are excited for Mia to meet everyone but we are going to just be patient. We will continue to update the blog so everyone can stay up-to-date.

Thank you for all of the love and support!!

Mia got all dressed up for her big event!!

Here is Mal with our escort team out of OSU!
Michelle was working that day and Pam decided
to come in on her day off... We love our nurses!!

Mia decided to take it all in... NOT... She slept
the whole ride home.

Mia and Mom are snuggle buddies

Mia finally got to be in the big girl swing...
not so sure if she likes it or not but it
beats being in the isolette.

Brynn was moved to a big boy bed!!

Brynn likes being nice and snug when he sleeps.

Now that Brynn is in a big boy bed, we got to
decorate it with mobiles and toys.

Here is Brynn with his casts.

Up close you can see we put socks on the cast to
make them look more comfy!

THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL THE LOVE AND SUPPORT

Getting Bigger and Bigger...

The kids are growing by the minute. Everyday we walk in to see them it seems like they get bigger and bigger. It has been a long time coming, but now when Mal and I walk into see the kids we are not so stand-offish... we grab the kids out of the isolette and hold them almost the whole time we are there. Mia is now 6 pounds 2 ounces and is starting to get better with the bottle (but we think she is stalling as long as she can so she can be with her brother longer).

While Brynn is 4 pounds 9 ounces and took a MAJOR step yesterday when he came off CPAP and was put on nasal cannula, which just gives him a steady flow of oxygen. Mal calls it the old man prongs! We had been hearing rumors of Brynn coming off of CPAP for a while, but when we walked in yesterday the nurses and doctors had just made the move without telling us... it was a huge surprise to us when we walked in and saw him without the CPAP... everyone started to cry, even the doctors! The doctors told us that he could have to go back onto the CPAP, but if he does it is not a big deal, this is a huge step for him. The doctors said that they are amazed at Brynn and love to see that he has come so far from when he was born and put on the ventilator at extremely high pressures, high oxygen, and tons of medications.

The doctors are telling us that it should be sometime soon (maybe next week) when Mia can come home!!! We are excited and also scared out of our minds but the nurses tell us that is normal. And we are planning the next couple steps Brynn needs before he can come home, but the way he is moving it shouldn't be long before that happens.

Here are some updated photos...

Brother and Sister holding hands... we will see
how long this lasts!!
