Getting Bigger and Bigger...

The kids are growing by the minute. Everyday we walk in to see them it seems like they get bigger and bigger. It has been a long time coming, but now when Mal and I walk into see the kids we are not so stand-offish... we grab the kids out of the isolette and hold them almost the whole time we are there. Mia is now 6 pounds 2 ounces and is starting to get better with the bottle (but we think she is stalling as long as she can so she can be with her brother longer).

While Brynn is 4 pounds 9 ounces and took a MAJOR step yesterday when he came off CPAP and was put on nasal cannula, which just gives him a steady flow of oxygen. Mal calls it the old man prongs! We had been hearing rumors of Brynn coming off of CPAP for a while, but when we walked in yesterday the nurses and doctors had just made the move without telling us... it was a huge surprise to us when we walked in and saw him without the CPAP... everyone started to cry, even the doctors! The doctors told us that he could have to go back onto the CPAP, but if he does it is not a big deal, this is a huge step for him. The doctors said that they are amazed at Brynn and love to see that he has come so far from when he was born and put on the ventilator at extremely high pressures, high oxygen, and tons of medications.

The doctors are telling us that it should be sometime soon (maybe next week) when Mia can come home!!! We are excited and also scared out of our minds but the nurses tell us that is normal. And we are planning the next couple steps Brynn needs before he can come home, but the way he is moving it shouldn't be long before that happens.

Here are some updated photos...

how long this lasts!!

  1. Mal & Simon,

I wanted to let you know that Russ and I have been praying for you and your beautiful babies. I haven't posted a comment before, but I have been reading since Russ told me that Mal went into pre-term labor.

I am so happy that both babies are doing so well - and it's so exciting that Mia will be coming home soon. I know you have a lot of family and support in the area, but if there is anything we can help with, please don't hesitate to give Russ a call and we'll be glad to do anything you need.

All the best to you and your family,

    Jenny Golowin

  2. Frasers -

Fantastic news on both kids. Just be careful saying the "h" word around Mia - they consider it bad luck at Children's. They prefer to say that the baby is getting ready to "go to the zoo"... 8^)

Ian is progressing pretty well, although at 5lb 7oz he's behind Mia a bit, and they've started to discuss when he might "go to the zoo" as well.

Prayers for you and your family.

  3. Brynn looks like he's ready to go ride dirty with his fellow bloods in that red outfit. He's an adorable mini-gangsta.
